Sentant arriver sa dernire heure, Alvin Straight, soixante-treizeans, dcide de traverser les tats-Unis pour rejoindre son frre, avec qui il s'est fch dix annes plus tt. Et pour ce faire, il va utiliser l'engin de locomotion qu'il connat le mieux: une tondeuse. Loin des films oniriques et dstructurs qui ornent sa production habituelle, David Lynch nous offre une trs belle histoire, simple et sobre, celle d'un vieillard et de sa volont inbranlable, de ce voyage mystique vers une ultime rconciliation. Accompagn par la musique du fidle Angelo Badalamenti, le regrett acteur Richard Farnsworth est tonnant de justesse dans ce road-movie incongru 30kilomtres heure, aux belles images de campagne amricaine, proches de l'univers graphique de William Eggleston ou de Edward Hopper.
