Ce thriller de Brian De Palma, sorti en 1981, est un hommage au Blow Up de Michelangelo Antonioni, teint d'une paranoa la Francis Ford Coppola. John Travolta incarne un ingnieur du son tmoin de l'accident de voiture mortel d'un candidat l'lection prsidentielle. La bande qu'il enregistrait ce moment semble cependant suggrer un complot criminel. Souhaitant rsoudre l'nigme, le personnage de Travolta cherche de l'aide auprs d'une prostitue (Nancy Allen) et tombe dans un traquenard diabolique maniganc par un fanatique d'extrme droite (John Lithgow). La fascination de De Palma pour les intrigues et les mystres du hasard fait de Blow Out un de ses films les plus thtraux. C'est aussi un des plus rvlateurs de la difficult d'associer fiction et ralisme.
